The proper term is esophagostomy tube. This poor girl is only in her middle age but has early stage renal failure and her liver had been affected too. She went off food totally for 2 days after spending 1 month on subcutaneous drips so the decision was made to have a feeding tube inserted. So far, she’s taken well to it and like most cats on feeding tubes, manage to lead a reasonably ‘normal’ life.

We only gave her 30ml of Hill’s a/d diet mixed with water, (half can) a some spirulina powder and half a crushed tablet of milk thistle (approx. 50mg) followed by around 20ml of water to flush the tube clean. As she gets used to being fed this way and seeing that the food went in smoothly enough with no noticeable residue inside the tube, we’ll use less water the next round.
