USDA proposes update to meat, poultry labeling rules

The agency plans to update rules for meat and poultry product nutrition labels to better align with the new FDA labeling regulations released earlier this year. Its proposal includes removing "calories from fat" from the label and requiring the addition of "added sugars," vitamin D and potassium. Meanwhile, the Center for Science in the Public Interest has petitioned the USDA to require a warning label on processed red meats informing consumers about potential risks of cancer associated with them. Read more at Bloomberg BNA...
